Autonomic Nervous System: Anatomy to the midbrain Midbrain The middle of the three primitive cerebral vesicles of the embryonic brain. The parasympathetic nervous system generally acts to conserve resources and restore homeostasis, often with effects reciprocal to the sympathetic nervous system. They synapse in cranial autonomic ganglia or in terminal ganglia near target organs. The cell bodies of the parasympathetic preganglionic fibers are in brain stem nuclei and in the sacral spinal cord. Light stimulus is conducted by the parasympathetic system Parasympathetic system The craniosacral division of the autonomic nervous system. Eye: Anatomy and moves through the optic tracts and lateral geniculate nuclei, terminating in the visual cortex Visual cortex Area of the occipital lobe concerned with the processing of visual information relayed via visual pathways. The outermost layer is pigmented, whereas the inner nine layers are transparent. Its outer surface is in contact with the choroid and the inner surface with the vitreous body. It is continuous with the optic nerve and receives images of external objects and transmits visual impulses to the brain. Nervous System: Histology pathway for visual function starts from the retina Retina The ten-layered nervous tissue membrane of the eye. The afferent Afferent Neurons which conduct nerve impulses to the central nervous system. The pupil provides insight Insight Psychiatric Assessment into the function of the central and autonomic nervous systems. Eye: Anatomy, the pupil's size is controlled by the surrounding iris. Adaptation by the ciliary body is crucial for ocular accommodation. It is slightly overlapped at its margin by the ciliary processes. Anatomically located in front of the lens Lens A transparent, biconvex structure of the eye, enclosed in a capsule and situated behind the iris and in front of the vitreous humor (vitreous body).

  • If you don't get any more answers here, please do post your own question - probably more people will then see it and respond. (This might not apply in all areas of the country.) In some areas going to an ordinary optician is the best way to get that - they will do their part of the eye examination but if there are issues they cannot explain, or if they find something, they can refer you to a consultant. In my opinion you need a very thorough check-up by an eye specialist. So I think it important to find out about that. The only real discomfort was a slight achy discomfort all around my eye socket. The head hurting bit has me puzzled - I did not get that. This is one part of the reason that hypothyroid people find oncoming headlamps difficult when driving. Fairly slow adjustment to changes in light level were definitely there. I had lots of eye/vision issues when hypothyroid (none were very strong but I certainly noticed them). It is absolutely NOT normal for anyone, of any age. Helvella Administrator in reply to Franchessy 8 years ago
